Often when I use the word substance, I'm thinking of an author's work. Like the substance of their work was comprised of or thinking of a scientific term. This substance is made up of X, Y, and Z. Considering the word and where it came from is fascinating because it means literally sub, beneath, and stance comes from the Latin meaning to stand.
